Mexico's economic solvency rules changed significantly in July 2025 when new Lineamientos Generales replaced the old 300Γ—/500Γ— UMA framework with higher multiples. The numbers below reflect those updated 2026 thresholds. One consistent thing about Mexico's immigration system: it is consistently inconsistent. Always verify the current requirement with your specific consulate β€” they apply their own exchange rates and can set higher bars than the baseline.

Step 1 β€” Your situation

Step 2 β€” Prove your finances

You qualify on either monthly income or savings balance β€” not a combination of both. Pick whichever is stronger.

Use your net monthly average over the last 6 months. Acceptable sources: Social Security, pension, 401(k) distributions, foreign salary/remote work, investment dividends. Consulates want 6 months of bank statements showing consistent deposits.

⚠️ The Number One Thing to Know

These figures are based on the July 25, 2025 Lineamientos Generales published in the DOF (code 5763837), using 2026 UMA values effective February 1, 2026. They represent the national baseline.

Your consulate may require more. Some convert at a fixed monthly exchange rate that differs from spot. Some require 12 months of income statements instead of 6. Some reject investment accounts entirely and want cash only. A few are known to add a 10–15% buffer above the theoretical minimum.

Always email your specific consulate before your appointment and ask for their current USD (or CAD/EUR) figures. This calculator tells you whether you're in the ballpark. Your consulate tells you if you'll get approved.

This calculator is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal or immigration advice. Thresholds are based on published DOF regulations but are subject to change and to consular interpretation. UMA values update annually on February 1. Exchange rates in this tool use approximate market rates and will differ from what your consulate uses. Verify all figures with a licensed Mexican immigration attorney or your nearest Mexican consulate before making financial or life decisions.
